Current & Upcoming Foodie Excitement! What are YOU doing this September?

As many foodies & industry types alike well know in Sacramento the food & wine social season begins in late may, takes a break in August, and has a slow start again in September; until the last couple of years. Within the last couple of years September has become a booming month for food and wine starting the harvest season off into the holiday season. So as we kiss the last sweet weekends of summer goodbye and head into my favorite fall season here's a list of events to keep you busy!

La Cocina's San Francisco Street Food Festival
August 21st, 2010 11am-7pm
From The Slanted Door, to Rye on the Road, Delfina, Bi-rite Creamery, the Cremebrule Cart and so many more!

The San Francisco Street Food Festival is an event hosted by La Cocina that advocates for the creation of policies that support the formalization of mobile food vending in San Francisco.

Policies as they exist today are discouraging and create barriers rather than opportunities for the creation of viable businesses and jobs for San Franciscans. Street food has the power to bring communities casual, affordable, delicious foods made by food entrepreneurs who reflect San Francisco’s diverse population. Policies that support the formalization of mobile vending will work to connect communities throughout San Francisco’s spectrum of class and culture to the everyday food that we all eat and love.

A Day in the Country
September 12, 2010 from 3pm to 6pm

Rural Yolo County Pictures, Images and Photos

This wonderful event I heard about from Clint Crow of Berryessa Gap Vineyards, still young in its status this event brings all elements of a day in the country to life; great food, wine, music, and in the end it's a bounty of fruit & vegetable to take home! I'm sad this is the first year I'll be going, as this supports all the local foodie, sustainable and wino things I love! Check out the restaurant list - intense goodness abounds!

Restaurants this year include from the San Francisco Bay Area (Chez Panisse, Coi, Gather, Lalimes, Masa’s), Sacramento (The Waterboy, Hawks, Lucca, Grange, L Wine Lounge, Taqueria Lupita) and Yolo County (Tazzini Bistro, Buckhorn Steak and Roadhouse , Monticello Bistro, Osteria Fasulo, Tuco’s Wine Market and Cafe).

Wine will be poured by Capay Valley Vineyards, Crew Wine Company, Marr Cellars, Putah Creek Winery, Rominger West Winery, Simas Family Vineyard, Wilson Winery and Yolo Winery.

A Day in the Country, Sunday September 12 from 3pm to 6pm, will be held under the shade of the walnut trees at the Elkhorn Basin Ranch located on County Road 117, Yolo County. Admission to this fundraiser for the Yolo Land Trust is $75 for adults ($85 at the door) and $20 for children over 6 (under 6 are free). Reserve your tickets by calling 530-662-1110 or at yololandtrust.org.

The Mike Justis Band will entertain with live music.

A Taste of History
A Taste of History: A Benefit for the Friends of Sutter's Fort
Saturday, Sep 25 6:30p
at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park, Sacramento, CA

Judging from sustainable farming practices and historic recipes cherished from the late 1800s, California's early pioneers were at the cutting edge of a Slow Food movement that re-emerged in popularity some 200 years later. And now, to the delight of foodies and history enthusiasts alike, Friends of Sutter's Fort, in association with Slow Food Sacramento, proudly presents "A Taste of History" on Saturday evening, September 25, at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park.

Taste of Lodi
September 26, 2010 1pm - 6pm

This is by far one of my favorite events in Lodi, including ZinFest, it's got all the goods - great wine, great food, white table cloths, a good band, less of the drunken people crowd, and good times all around - this event, as far as I've seen, caters to a smaller clientele and it's all the better for it, here's looking forward to Lodi!

Visit Lodi! Conference & Visitors Bureau is hosting the ninth annual wine and food experience with wine, food, and numerous activities throughout the day. The event consists of wine seminars where guests can learn the latest from local vintners, chef demonstrations from Lodi's celebrity chefs including Ruben Larrazolo from Alebrijes Mexican Bistro, and live music with Joe Leningan's "Little" Big Band. This band will keep feet tapping and guests dancing to everything from today's hits, to Rock 'n Roll, to swing and Latin. A favorite for many is the Port, Cigar and Chocolate Pavilion, where guests can experiment their own unique pairings.

  1. So many wonderful things to go to...wish my budget was bigger! Oh well, maybe I can at least make it to taste of Lodi, we are friends with the wine maker from M2 there in Lodi and often help him pour...so always try to make it to the big events.

  2. I know, I'm in the same budget place! I'm just so happy how many events seem to be coming out of Sacramento, all in the larger Sacramento culinary movement!
