The San Francisco's Farmer's Market on Saturday's at the Ferry Building has been going on for some time, but to a Sacramento local who frequents our acclaimed Sunday's farmers market on 8th & X, it was a very diffrent expierence! There were many of the same local purveyors such as Bariani Olive Oil (a personal favorite), but the market experience in Sacramento is very vendor heavy, with more serious shopping and less tasting. Along with outstanding meat vendors also new to our growing market, including Blesdoe Pork and Lucky Dog Ranches Beef (you can find many sacramento celebrity chefs stocking up at these stations), there are competitve vendors for fruit and veggies, flowers, cheeses, and herbs!
OK, here's how the SF market differs, it's huge!, it has an entire section across the street from Embarcadaro that is devoted to arts, crafts, and music - there is open air vendors selling food! Suffice to say this farmer's market is a Scene!

This shot is from the Veggie Valet! another idea Sacramento has yet to pick up, and hopefully will never need to. The Veggie Valet is a service that let's you drop off your goods for a nominal fee, while you continue to shop for more! Then after all of your shopping is done you pick up (how if you needed a valet in the first place?) your goods before you go to your car (which is no doubt parked a mile away, cause there are soo many people there!)
Open air food being prepared for immediate consumption! Nice, and harder than you might think to get regualtions for at a farmer's market like this one!
Scene-ster people soaking up the market with a view of the Bay!
Who doesn't love beautiful mushrooms??? but at a pretty penny no less, another differentiation, every commodity was about $2-3 more a pound in the bay city! (but the selection was vast!)
Yes, that's right, this is the famous Cowgirl Creamry Cheese-ary! This is such a tasting experience, with trained staff avaiable to help with your every cheesey question! Given my trip was just before Thanksgiving there were huge crowds on these cheese experts getting as many wedges they could lay there hands on, instituting a numbering system of which we were number 30! I'm hoping it's not normally SO busy, but even if it is, there cheese is worth it. Then just walk next door and the famous ACME bread company is there for all of your bread needs!
If you ever get a chance to go into San Francisco for some leisure time on a Saturday check out the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building from 8 -2pm, and support the local farmers!!
