Tower Cafe's Famous French Toast, It's All the Hype and more..

So on a recent visit from a long gone friend I convinced her to expand her small window of time to hang out just a bit longer so we could try something that people have been telling me about for years now, The Tower Cafe Famous French Toast! Unlike most french toasts' made in the Sac area diners/bistros this one is custard based and finished in the oven, the heavy cream custard gives this traditionally very bready breakfast item a thick richness that for some diners might even smack of a dessert, but for me it was spot on! Each forkful of bread is heavily laden with the velvety egg flavor, no over powering cinnamon or nutmeg, just custard toast - this is the very reason that Tower Cafe has won Best Breakfast and Best Brunch for years in a row, and the outdoor jungle doesn't hurt either!

I also wanted to make a mini shout-out to the people over at Freeport Bakery, while their food is always wonderful and bakery always homey and approachable, I never knew how far they would go in the service category to make a customer happy. I found out this morning. The only thing this out of town friend comes to Sacramento for, outside seeing me of course, is the Hazelnut Torte that used to be a year round staple at Freeport Bakery, it's now a seasonal item. This was truly disappointing as she is a HUGE chocolate hazelnut fan. So I asked if there was one in the back, frozen, or that we could buy from of another client and it was all a sad no. Then one of their awesome people said "hold on a minuet, we don't have the cake, but how about some dark chocolate cake with a dollop of hazelnut mousse on it? I know it's not the same, but maybe it will hit the spot?" I was blow away! I of course said "Yes, please!" and when I asked to pay, or tip or anything, he was like "it's no big thing, I'm happy to help!" - wow, genuinely kind and compassionate over something so trivial as cake; for someone that cake is not so trivial!
Very Impressive Indeed.
