When I originally set to write this piece it was a fresh and new place, and had all of it's concerns and triumphs - but as life intervened, this foodie joint has been more than covered, so this is just one more voice in the chorus talking about some solidly good eats in Sacramento!
Here's why you should like them:
- Biscuits and Gravy - the best I've ever had, herbaceous, creamy and the biscuits are light fluffy and almost have a crisp crunch on the outside and a softness on the inside! Finish that with a fried egg on top? Seriously good eats.
- Biscuit Sandwich - same great biscuit, fluffy eggs, and that bacon that makes them so famous!
- Cherries Jubilee Flapjacks - these were unique and were served so hot that they almost flambéed my mouth - like literally! But once you let them cool for 15-20 min they were devine! Creamy, tart from the cherries, and overall created an inspired breakfast creation.
- Almond crusted French Toast - great idea, not great execution, it was kinda dry and lackluster compared to the excitement of the other dishes.
Overall I really liked the vibe of this place, I liked the indie touches all over, liked the communal table idea, the Old Soul coffee (really nice touch having something worth drinking as the go-to), and all the potential of where this place could go! It seems either I'm getting older or the talent's getting younger (maybe both) but Billy Zoellin was in the same graduating class as my youngest sister - which show's you at two things: 1. how very small a town Sacramento is 2. how far this "kid" could go, given the raw talent he has now.
