Sacramento is known for many things, and looked over for EVERYTHING else (which is fine, there's not really much here), but with the newest emergence of all of these very popular Vegas style nightclubs like The Park Ultra Lounge and the Newest Social Nightclub opening this week at 10th and K- which is part of Randy Paragary's newest 2 tiered multi-aspect club (Cosmo Cafe, Cosmopolitan Cabaret, and the Soical NightClub), and Euro style lounges like the Palare Lounge--- a person longs for the days of the Awesome dive bar! Overextended, expensive, credit-absorbing luxury is nice for all those great people from the suburbs (which I swear is the only people that go to these clubs) but for the downtown natives these clubs are just soooo lame!
I mean don't get me wrong, this place is beautiful, the food is not always horrible if you like Homemade Mac & Cheese for $12, but the otherside of the equation is posers everywhere, getting hit on from people you wouldn't date in a B-movie, and sur-charges for everything!!!
Now maybe it's the trashy in me, or just the girl that was crazying it up in high school and later in these nostalgic bars of mine that I wouldn't trade for anything. Now be warned, although my past time club is The Press Club, Benny's, Elixer, and Old Ironsides- these clubs, while serving the best or better drinks, a place you can dance your heart out (but never take off your shoes for fear of tetanus) are nothing like there uber-chic counterparts. The food is strictly pub-grub, the beer is better than any of the chic clubs (cause real beer drinkers don't go to a nightclub!)--- and wait for it, That's right Ladies and Gentlemen YOU CAN SMOKE OUTSIDE!!! in some of them, inside smoking occurs all the time!!

Introduced to me by a industry elite who's gone bi-coastal in her efforts to find the best drink, this bar caters NOT to the premium club goers who don't know there gin from there vodka, think that beer is beer and Budweiser is the best, or who need a mixed house beat by DJ AM to have a good time!
This bar, and the dive bars like it, are all about INSANE TOP SHELF drinks (with a bartender who knows what the fuck she's doing (Christina and brother)) and food to match. This is the place where chef's from ALL over downtown Sacramento (our celebrity elite) go for after hour cocktails. I personally trust not the place where the chef's SAY the food is good, but go where the chef's themselves go!
So in this sad little city with slowly-emerging food and wine culture that we call home, there is a place for the foodie elite to go, where the drinks are worth the price (which isn't even that high) and the food is good! Go pub-grub! So keep your Ultra NighClubs for the kids in Carmichael and sad singles in the suburbs! For those who know food and drink with a passion, it's bottom basement for us!!!
