Sacramento’s newest attraction for Grub Crawlers, experts or novices alike, is the invention of SacDine.com and Libations Entertainment in sponsorship with Neumann Enterprises. This collaboration partnership is teaming up with all the hottest downtown area restaurants for a multi – night per month attraction of the Grub Crawl.
Very similar to the pub-crawls that are rampant on the east coast, all night-lifers show up at the first destination restaurant and then are petty-cabbed (rickshaw-ed) by awesome and attractive bicyclists to each additional location. The bicyclists are really a lifesaver, from drunken saves to keeping your feet from falling off due to overly cute shoes; these guys are nice and very helpful!
The locations, of the Latin themed evening included Bistro 33, The Grand – wine bar, Zocolo, and the end off with Auzkar. The base price is a reasonable $25 per person, which includes complimentary appetizers and chauffeuring at all locations, although drinks are not included ☹ there are some good drink specials that the duo of Michael Anthony and Cline Moore were able to ensure!
Thursday night started off with appetizers at Bistro 33, where they were serving their signature cheese dip and chips that was festive, for a dressed up nacho, so busy was this smaller location of the larger founding restaurant on 33rd St, that there was huge bar business- so getting to the bar was a struggle, but worth the wait, because there wine list is very approachable.
From this location we were taken by petty cab to The Grand, which specializes in wine and appetizers. This location, smaller than the first if you can imagine, had a $5 wine special and appetizers of a white bean salad, and a Mediterranean assortment of breads and sausages making this some of the best food of the evening! As this location was soo popular, we pressed on to Zocolo’s after getting some of the tasty eats.
With 4 destinations to cover in 4 hours we were on our way again, off to one of the most popular Mexican restaurant in town, Zocolo’s. This location, which is always thick with patrons, handled the influx of our 80-100 pub crawling companions with grace. As everyone rushed to the bars and tables plates of empanadas and tacos were passed to all, the empanadas of spinach and mushroom were particularly good.
Our finial destination was the new kitchen at the familiar location of Auzkar on the prime real estate location of 17th and J St. This constant hot spot has been a popular Latin club for some time, but with their expanded club scene downstairs and their newly emerged Asian Kitchen this place is going to be hotter than ever! From crispy Vietnamese rolls with a spicy sauce to seared flank steak and drink specials to keep the patrons coming this was a new Auzkar for the downtown.
After taking time to participate in the eats, all were invited to the salsa lessons that Auzkars known for, from beginners to professionals all got a chance to viva la vida loca!
The adventure of fodder and libations Sacramento Grub Crawl presents is sure to reinvent the idea of the traditional pub crawl! Make sure you don’t miss out, check out www.SacramentoGrubCrawl.com and join the tasting experience!
