To chase his blues away he drops the needle on his favorite LP – the 1928 musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone. From the crackle of his hi-fi, the musical magically bursts to life on-stage telling the tale of a pampered Broadway starlet who wants to give up show business to get married, her producer who sets out to sabotage the nuptials, her chaperone, the debonair groom, the dizzy chorine, the Latin lover and a pair of gangsters who double as pastry chefs. Man in Chair’s love of The Drowsy Chaperone speaks to anyone who has ever been transported by the theater.

The Character of “Man in Chair” is played by Jonathan Crombie, whose comedic timing is in perfect symmetry for the show, his ability to connect with audience, engage, and then improvise as needed created a whole new dynamic for the performance. The other performance that stood out with star-quality was Alicia Irving as the Drowsy Chaperone from dramatic to drunk with show-stoppingly impressive vocals she showed extraordinary talent.

As most of the cast is the original from the Broadway show, the performance is even more unique, as it’s not a filter of acting genius, but an experience of the original. With fabulous costumes, comedy throughout the entire performance, this show is a real crowd pleaser – so get tickets and info at http://www.californiamusicaltheatre.com/index.cfm?page=608000
