A local favorite in Sacramento has always been Freeport Bakery, but I wanted to pay some tribute to all there yumminess, literally, this holiday season.

From their intense holiday season orders to their wedding cake orders that go from the traditional to the mad hatter crazy this place has been a baking institution since 1987.
Although I do love Ettores cookies, as they tend to be a little cheaper and softer depending on the day, Freeport cannot be beat for cakes! they bring on the works from a rum soaked Tiramisu to the tart lemon cooler.

Now although I prefer SOME of Ettores cookies, the selection at Freeport is outstanding - they have Russian Tea Cakes (Mexican wedding cookies), danish, acorns, brownies and cupcakes galore.

So for all their virtues, my personal Freeport preference is almost always the cheesecake. This changes from season to season from a holiday cranberry (sweet & tart), to their raspberry (favorite, favorite) - all with a perfect creamy texture and slight tart flavor provided by orange zest!

Right next to Dad's Kitchen (check out the peanut butter/bacon/ banana/ honey sandwich) to Marie's donuts, another local (drunken favorite) they open at 1 am, and keep the donuts going till 4, but right across the street is Taylor's Kitchen and Taylor's Market another Sacramento favorite for gourmet food, and in-house butchers! (very hard to find in Sacramento now)
Taylor's Market is soo well know that David Berkeley (of the former David Berkeley's in Pavillons) still shops their! Now that's good eats!
Check out the Freeport area for these foodie favorites if your in the neighborhood, their worth the drive!
