Hot Chocolate is done right at Ginger Elizabeth!

Ginger Elizabeth Hahn Sacramento's best and only chocolatier has had an illustrious past of learning from the likes of Julia Child, going to CIA Hyde Park, and working for world-renowned chocolatiers Jacques Torres (the youngest ever Master Pastry Chef in France ) and Daniel Budd (named one of the top ten pastry chefs by Chocolatier and Pastry Arts magazines).

After her graduation from CIA Ginger took a position at the Ritz Carlton in Chicago. There she apprenticed under the world famous pastry chef En-Ming Hsu (World Pastry Cup 2001 gold medalist). Under the guidance of En-Ming, Ginger further refined her skills with chocolate and in the pastry arts.

In 2005, at the age of only 24, Ginger opened the wholesale chocolate company Couture Chocolates by Ginger Elizabeth. To keep up with the industry trends, she completed a chocolate science and technology course at UC Davis in 2006.

By 2007 Ginger had decided to expand her business by opening her first retail location. The boutique chocolaterie would feature all things chocolate including individual desserts, hot chocolate, cakes, cookies, chocolate sculptures, and of course a variety of chocolate confections.

In 2008, Ginger launched the retail store in Midtown Sacramento under the company's new name, Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates. It is at this location that you can find her famed Hot Chocolate that I had a privilege to try.

They have three different hot chocolate choices available; American, European Sipping, and Wahacian Spiced.

Critique:
European Sipping - thick mouth feel, smooth rich flavor, chocolaty but not bitter, and even more indulgently creamy when drunken with their handmade marshmallows that literally melt into the hot chocolate (totally made me rethink my finite stance for Redi Whip on Hot Chocolate!)

Wahacian Spiced - thinner than the European, spicy without the heat of chili's, but delightful for drinking!

In addition to their outstanding Hot Chocolate we also got a chance to try their actual chocolate bites, which were outstanding from flavors like their savory Toasted Coconut to their pungent Meyer Lemon, sugary sweet Creme Brulee, and one I can't even pronounce (my favorite) a dark chocolate creme!
These chocolates are a little pricey, but well worth it for the flavors - and the divine ingredients used to make them, and considering that the Hot Chocolate is so disgustingly good for only $3 it's well worth the trade off!
