So I've been wanting to try Giovanni's Pizza forever but never got the chance, as it's located on 65th and Folsom, which is off the grid. If you live in downtown/midtown it's usually possible to find everything you would want right next to you and leaving the "grid" is unnecessary, but while at a famous foodie event (pig roast post) a great Sacramento food insider/ restaurant consultant told me it was Very Necessary to check this pizza out! Now I've had some pretty good pizza in NY and SF, one of my favorite pizzas was in DC at Luigi's, so I was open to some out-of-Sacramento flavors. Now keep in mind the the pizza we speak of is not Chicago style. Now my sister couldn't have a better pizza, she loves the idea of cheese under tomato sauce, and that thick crust is all the goodness, but I just think that is wrong!
If the cheese is under the tomato's its not pizza, IT'S A CASSEROLE!
Now like all true pizza purists I love perfectly delectable, but not overly peppery sauce (Original Pete's), and a correct if not overly heavy proportion of cheese. Crust is important too, I like a doughy crust that is also on the thinner side. All of these must have items come together in the pizza's made at Giovanni's, now the pizza is on the greasy side (which I like) but from olive oil and cheese, which is just scrumptious! So if you like NY-style Pizza at all check this joint out, it's worth the try on a Friday night, especially considering it's the same price if not less than all other inferior commercial pizza brands!
