Foodie Find: Mirabelles, Fair Oaks

Another local favorite in my new work area is Mirabelles. Almost hidden down Winding Way, behind Italian style trees and in a salmon colored building is a little slice of Tuscany. Although their amibence feels like Italy, their food screams of France, so it seems their an eclectic mix of Old World Europe; with outdoor patio seating surrounded by fountains and white linen table cloths, this place is a welcome break from the many commercial establishments in the area.

Their lunch & brunch menus both include many options from Belgian waffles and Lemon-Ricotta pancakes to Croque Madame (grilled ham and Swiss cheese sandwich with a poached egg and a soft Bearnaise sauce), custom crepes (with ingredients like fresh strawberries and nutella), and more mainstream sandwiches like a tuna-melt. There's a little something for everyone, and all their dishes hover near the $8-$15/ plate.

But the true crowning glory of Mirabelle's is their bakery. Very similar to the quality found at Ettore's or Freeport Bakery, this place specializes in French pastries. From devine Eclairs to French Macaroons (very labor intensive and one of the only places that I've seen in all of Sacramento that makes them), fruit tarts, 10 different styles of individually crafted cakes, cookies, lemon meringue tarts, sacher tortes and many more. There isn't a places better in all of Sacramento for individual desserts (I can just imagine how perfect these would be for parties).

So if your looking for a fun new brunch place, or just have a yen for a Marie Antoinette-style pastry party check out Mirabelles.
