The Sacramento’s Music circus has done it again with an exciting rendition of the classics, by bringing the witty and clever My Fair Lady to our fair city. Housed in the Wells Fargo Pavilion downtown, it is tents no longer for these summer shows. Already showcased were the talented shows of Sound of Music, Gypsy, Sweeny Todd, Swing and now My Fair Lady. The run times are fairly short, (My Fair Lady- August 5 – 10) do to the nature of all the shows that the California Musical Theater brings to Sacramento’s summer audiences. With the intimate theater-in-the round style of Shakespeare Globe Theater in London, we get a better performance than I’ve even witnessed at the community center theater. The acoustics, the lighting and sound could not be beat. With actors coming in from behind you, singing next to you, and dying in front of you this theater transport you within the show. Adapted from Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, the famed musical has book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The excitement from this crowd was so alive that the girl behind me literally started singing in the middle of the play, Wouldn’t it be Loverly! Upcoming shows are Evita August 12 – 17 and Hairspray August 19 – 28.
