Why Food Blog at All?

In entering the Project Food Blog contest put on by FoodBuzz I was thrown into at least 20 minuets of sober thought on why I food blog at all? What is it about blogging, specifically about food & wine that is so captivating?

Answer: it's awesome, and in a completely un-slang 80's sense, but as defined by the word.
Awesome: inspiring or displaying awe.

Food and wine constantly leave me in a sense of awe, and excitement. It's one of the last things that is egalitarian for all, it approaches all levels, it's colorful, creative, alcoholic, sexy, intriguing, comforting and alienating all at once. It embraces so many different things, and it's also so very basic = almost all people eat multiple times a day. Food is one of the last universal playing fields, which all people have an opinion on. No one is right or wrong in food, because things can be done differently as soon as you think you've set a standard.

I personally started blogging when I got into freelance writing after attending UC Davis. While there I took many food & wine classes, and worked in many of Sacramento's finer dining establishments while making it through school.

After getting out of college and attempting to find that "perfect" job I started writing, people actually wanted to hear my opinions and respected what I had to say (I was surprised more than anyone else) - I then started realizing how surround by food my life turned out to be. My family is part of a large citrus operation under the name of Sunkist, my sister is a huge mover and shaker in California Rice politics and I've been scratching at the clogs of as many chefs that would listen to me since I was 16. From job upheaval to family drama, writing was always there, food was always an adventurous comfort, a shared joy with friends and a solace of excitement all it's own.

I now find myself with a voracious palette, and passion stronger than ever for Food, Wine and the Politics that surround it. This blog is my release, my rantings on restaurant who's who's, culinary practices, and adventures around a city constantly overlooked, while traveling around the country finding that Sacramento (despite it's hot summers) is slowly, quietly becoming a feat of strength in the fork and knife world.

There are some people who eat to live and others that live to eat - I've been a party to both sides, and the latter brings far more joy. So join me, take a break from the cubicle crap and enjoy my Hunter Thompson-isk immersion into Sacramento and beyond's world of Food & Wine.
