So in a most recent foodie adventure, Star Fine Foods hosted a wealth of Sacramento Foodies at the Greek Village Inn Restaurant! It was ouzo and shop talk all over, and when all was said and done some good eats as well! My dining companions were some of Sacramento's premier bloggers including: Munchie Musings, Poor Girl Eats Well, Kitchen Travels, 52 Kitchen Adventures, Literary Foodie and many more - from what are the best restaurants around Sac to blogging monetization techniques it was almost a mini-food blogger convention! Not only was this a great exposure for the wines and food showcased by Star Fine Foods and Sean Minor Wines but a great way to bring together the food blogging community!
Here's hoping this is the first of a larger trend...(hint, hint)
And on to the food...
Appetizers
Grilled Artichokes, rubbed with Star Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil,
served with Star Capers and Lemon Thyme Remoulade
Thoroughly coated in olive oil, slightly heavy on the char but buttery and vegetative
with a creamy sauce
Spicy Imported Dodonis Greek Feta dip with Star Garlic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
served with Grilled Pia Bread
This was really the perfect Superbowl party dip! Spicy (barely a 1 on a 10-scale) but very creamy with the feta cheese taking down the heat! Could have kept eating more, and more..
Imported Kefalograviera Cheese Saganaki sauteed in Star California Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Flambeed tableside
This was super scrumptious, ever have extra cheese that's been burned on a pizza? Everyone has, it's awesome! This flamed cheese is that experience, burnt, acidic chewy, cheesy goodness!
Salad
Traditional Horiatiki Salata with Heirloom Tomatotes and Imported Dondonis Feta Cheese, Kalamata Olives tossed with Star California Extra Virgin Olive Oil
This soft, bright, and beautifully dressed salad was a great palate cleanser of the cheese from before to the lamb to follow, with sharp sheep's milk feta to sweet tomatoes, and clean cucumbers
Main
New Zealand Roasted Lamb Shank basted with Star California Extra Virgin Olive Oil
and Roasted Lemon Potatoes
This, the main course, should normally be the high point - for me was the low, although well attempted the lamb shank was somewhat toothsome, and the potatoes were given a "warning" of traditional style and being not burnt - well mine could have used some more traditional flavor in the oven, but it was a worthy effort none-the-less
Dessert
Grilled Fresh Fruit, marinated in Star California Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Brandy,
served in a Meringue Cup
This part was all about the ouzo for me, and it was good - from the different techniques of drinking it, to the quality of it - yum - the fruit was grilled in brandy and finished in a meringue that tasted like a large pink marshmallow - yum yum
